A fun day out for the whole family

Blackpool Zoo is a multi-award winning, must-see attraction in Britain’s favourite seaside resort. With more than 1000 mesmerising animals in over 37 acres of stunning parkland, it is the perfect setting to create unforgettable experiences for the whole family!

From aardvarks to anteaters, Bactrian camels to Bornean orangutans, capybaras to Californian sea lions, penguins to pelicans, elephants to emus and marmosets to meerkats (to name just a few) the residents come in all shapes and sizes.

The best things to do at Blackpool Zoo

A day out at Blackpool Zoo is all about the animals, of course! Some of the zoo's most popular animals include tigers, elephants, flamingos, and gorillas. The zoo also offers animal experiences, which include feeding giraffes, meeting tapirs, and meeting lemurs.

Our top exhibits to see at Blackpool Zoo are:

Zaiya Steals the Spotlight!

Zaiya is the newest member of the elephant herd at Project Elephant Base Camp, and she became an instant zoo favourite when she was born in September 2025. Since then, she’s been delighting visitors with her playful curiosity and can be seen sticking close to mum Tara, while exploring her surroundings. Watching her learn from the rest of the herd offers a rare insight into the close family bonds of this magnificent species.

Towering adventures

A new, extended giraffe habitat opening Easter 2026 is set to give visitors panoramic views of the world’s tallest animals. Raised walkways will put visitors at eye level with the giraffes as they roam around their savannah-style surroundings.

Great ape escapades

Over in Orangutan Outlook, youngsters Jarang and Rufus are delighting visitors with their cheeky antics. Born in 2023 and 2024, the pair are gaining confidence and spending their days climbing and swinging around their ever-watchful mums. The North West’s only troop of Western lowland gorillas can also be seen exploring and foraging for food on gorilla island next door.

Pride of Blackpool

No trip to the zoo is complete without a visit to the Big Cat Habitat, which opened in 2023. Khari the African lion, born in Blackpool in 2015, now heads up his own pride after Narla and Hira arrived in 2023. Next door, visitors can marvel at the regal Amur tigers, Alyona and Rusty. As the largest of all big cat species, they command attention with their striking stripes and powerful presence.

Step back in time

A pre-historic adventure awaits in the Dinosaur Safari as visitors are transported back to the land of the giants. Animatronic dinosaurs reside in lush surroundings with native plants, volcanic features and realistic sound effects.

Splashingly good fun!

Active Oceans is home to Californian sea lions and the only colony of Magellanic penguins in the UK. Daily demonstrations and public feeds make this one of the zoo’s liveliest and most popular areas.

Walk on the wild side

Walk-through exhibits including Lemur Wood, Wallaby Walkabout, World of Wings and Rainbow Landings mean visitors can share space with some of the zoo’s friendliest animals. They are perfect for anyone who enjoys a quiet moment with nature and a fantastic way to see the zoo from a new perspective.

Eat, shop and play

Visitors can enjoy a variety of dining options including subs from the UK’s first zoo-base Subway. From a quick coffee to a leisurely lunch, there is lots of choice to keep everyone fuelled for a day of fun. Parents can burn the last of the kids’ energy in the Playbarn, a multi-level indoor adventure zone, while the gift shop offers lots of zoo-venirs to remember a wild day out. Don’t forget to check out the daily talk and demonstration schedule! Blackpool Zoo combines education, conservation and fun in one adventure packed day and every ticket helps protect endangered species around the world by ensuring the zoo can continue caring for animals today, while safeguarding a future for their wild cousins.

What age group is Blackpool Zoo suitable for?

Blackpool Zoo is suitable for all ages, from babies in pushchairs right up to older visitors. The whole family can enjoy their day out at Blackpool Zoo.

When is the best time to visit Blackpool Zoo?

Blackpool Zoo is a primarily outdoor attraction, which means it's the perfect place to visit in the spring and summer when the weather is good. The Zoo does offer a number of indoor exhibits and viewing platforms to take cover in when it rains, although most of the Zoo will have to be explored outdoors. Blackpool will be very busy at weekends and during school holidays, which means visitors who can avoid these peak times might benefit from a slightly quieter day out.

What to take with you?

It is advised to bring an umbrella on rainy days or a sun hat on warmer days.
