With its mix of child-friendly attractions and unique thrill rides, Drayton Manor is one of the UK's best theme parks for family days out.
Located just outside of Tamworth, Staffordshire, Drayton Manor first opened in 1949 as a small family-run amusement park. Since then it has expanded to incorporate a zoo and specially themed areas, including the popular Thomas Land.
Based on the children's TV series, Thomas and Friends, Thomas Land features 15 family-friendly rides based on characters from the show. There's something for all ages - babies and toddlers will enjoy Ladies Carousel and the Blue Mountain Engines, while rides like Toby's Tram Express and the Troublesome Trucks roller coaster are more suited to older children.
Drayton Manor is also famed for its innovative thrill rides, such as Apocolypse, a 54m drop tower. At the time of opening, it was the only drop tower in the world that guests could ride standing up.
If you need a break from the rides, there's an outdoor playground and indoor soft play area, which give the children a chance to explore and parents the chance to sit down for a rest. The Drayton Manor zoo is also large enough to spend a good hour looking around the different enclosures.
Drayton Manor opens at 10am on most weekdays, or at 9.30am at weekends or at peak times of the year. Queue times tend to get longer towards the middle of the day, so it's a good idea to plan your day. This park map will help you.
