Blackpool Zoo has been open for family days out since 1972. Situated close to many other popular Blackpool attractions, the zoo is a favourite with local families and those travelling from further afield. Here you'll find a wealth of things to do including walk-through aviaries, a dinosaur safari and the Project Elephant Base Camp, which opened in 2018 and is a look into the bright and shining future of animal welfare in zoo environments.
For term-time days out, Blackpool Zoo is an extremely popular choice. It's smaller and more compact than other North West zoos (covering 32 acres in total), making it ideal for younger children to explore at a leisurely pace whilst the older children are at school. Despite its relatively small size in comparison to other UK zoo attractions, you'll find that there are plenty of activities to keep everybody occupied all day, in any weather, through term-time and school holidays.
You'll find ample car parking on site, as well as an excellent selection of places to eat. These include the Lake View Cafe, a number of smaller kiosks and Nawala Street Food, which serves Indian and Oriental dishes, with plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan visitors.

Blackpool Zoo has more than 1500 animals, from the giant tortoises that greet you as you enter the park to the lemurs and wallabies in their walk-through environments. Through the summer season, many of these animals can be enjoyed from onboard the miniature train.
To burn off energy, children will find plenty of play parks situated throughout zoo grounds, as well as the Playbarn soft play area.
Blackpool Zoo is open every day except Christmas Day, always from 10am, though closing times will vary through the year. It's recommended that you check opening times before purchasing your tickets.
