The world’s oldest scientific zoo, founded in 1828, ZSL London Zoo is the perfect oasis in the heart of the nation’s capital. Spanning 36 acres near the picturesque Regent’s Park, the zoo’s delights are easily accessed from the centre of London. You will be transported to a world of prowling big cats and tropical creatures – and, with 1.25 million visitors a year, it’s become a beloved family day out.
Visitors can marvel at an enormous variety of attractions, from the Attenborough Komodo Dragon House to the enormously popular Penguin Beach, the largest penguin pool in England, housing over 90 charming and inquisitive Humboldt penguins. Creepy crawly fans will be blown away by the B.U.G.S. building, where you can experience the UK’s only walk-through spider experience (if you dare!) and which features 140 species to teach visitors old and young about biodiversity across the world.
Animal lovers will be spoilt for choice, as the zoo is home to one of the largest collections of animals in the UK – but ZSL London Zoo has plenty more to offer visitors. The fresh, seasonal food of the Terrace Restaurant is a must-visit, with the Aquarium Kiosk and more handy for those on-the-go families looking to grab a bite to eat before one of the daily animal events (from Tiger Time to High Tea with Giraffes), find all the details here.
ZSL London Zoo is open year round, so whether you want to plan term-time days out for your little ones, or take a trip in the summer holidays, anything is possible – you can visit every day of the year (except Christmas Day) from 10.00am (with seasonal closing times).
