The Edinburgh Dungeon is an enthralling and immersive experience that is not for the faint of heart. Led by a cast of live actors, this interactive attraction promises a scary and hilarious journey through Scotland’s history, combining live shows, special effects and underground rides. The storytelling is based on real historic events and features some of the most gruesome events and the most infamous characters from Scotland’s past, such as William Wallace and Burke and Hare. The Edinburgh Dungeon aims to thrill, scare and enthral its visitors with a sinister 80 minute journey that gives an alternative tour of Edinburgh that won’t be forgotten.
The Edinburgh Dungeon experience incorporates a number of rides and shows within the tour. The sets offer a 360 degree experience, allowing visitors to experience the storytelling using all of their senses. The shows feature live actors who recreate macabre scenes of crime and punishment in a realistic and entertaining manner, such as The Judge and Courtroom and The Torturer. Escape from cannibals in the Sawney Bean show and witness a gory autopsy at the Anatomy Theatre. In the Street of Sorrows, you can experience plague ridden 17th Century Edinburgh, learn the gruesome business of murder with Burke and Hare, and prepare for a hanging with Maggie Dickson. The attraction also features two rides, a boat ride through the Caves of Galloway and the Drop Dead: Drop Ride, an experience recreating the hangman’s noose.
The Edinburgh Dungeon is situated in the heart of Edinburgh on Market Street. If arriving by car, the nearest car parks are located at Waverley Station or Greenside Place. Lothian bus services 36, 67 and 100 regularly stop outside the attraction. Alternatively, you can take a tram to Princes Street, which is the closest stop to the Dungeon.
