Set amidst forty-two acres of stunning countryside, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek is Europe's leading seal rescue centre. The Sanctuary is home to a number of stray, sick and injured seal pups that have been rescued from around the Cornish coastline, as well as twenty six other amazing creatures.
In addition to the adorable seals, the Cornish Seal Sanctuary is home to playful penguins, troublesome otters and vociferous sea lions. They live alongside pretty ponies, genial goats, and sheep. There are talks about the animals and feeding sessions running throughout the day, plus many other attractions and special events that will appeal to all the family.
Children love the interactive elements within the sanctuary, such as the chance to touch the starfish and crabs in the rock pool. A pirate-ship themed play area and a quiz trail will keep young visitors occupied for hours.
Adults will enjoy the 'Behind The Scenes Hospital Experience', which gives an insight into the care given to sick seal pups, and is both interesting and informative. There are woodland walks with a river view, which will also appeal to our adult visitors.
The Sanctuary is dog friendly too, so everyone is welcome!
By car: Take the A394 to Helston, in Cornwall. From Helston, follow the A3083 towards Lizard. Turn left at the roundabout onto the B3293, and continue towards St Keverne. After about half a mile, turn left and follow the signpost to Gweek. When you arrive in Gweek, turn right just before the ‘Black Swan Pub’, and follow the signs to the seal sanctuary.
The nearest train station to the sanctuary is at Falmouth Town. From Falmouth Town it is a ten mile taxi ride to the park, or a twenty five minute bus journey to Helston followed by a five minute taxi ride.
