Set on more than 20 acres of parkland in Huntingdonshire, Hamerton Zoo, one of the world’s most environmentally friendly zoos, provides lots of fun for family days out.
With the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day, you can look forward to visiting this zoo all year round. There are hundreds of animals to see so why not start by taking a ride in the Express Railroad Train. Travel all the way from the donkey stables to the tiger enclosures and see how many animals you can spot along the way. To get up close to some of the domestic animals, go on the Stroll-a-Safari. Not only will you be able to pet the animals you encounter but you’ll be able to feed some of them too.
The animals at Hamerton Zoo include a pair of wombats, tiger quolls, wallabies, cheetahs, tigers, civets, giant anteaters and oncillas. Bird lovers will enjoy seeing species ranging from bitterns to kookaburras to vultures. Watch the giant spurred tortoises taking it easy.
Get close to the animals with special encounter activities. Hold snakes, millipedes and a bearded dragon in the Reptile House. Feed a tiger through the side of its enclosure or meet a hand-reared cheetah. Enter the Ring Tail Lemur enclosure and have fun as you feed them.
As is often the case with family days out, the kids might still need to get rid of excess energy while you take a break, so relax in the Coffee Shop while your little ones play in the play areas. There’s one for older children and one that’s suited to babies and toddlers.
In summer, you can visit Hamerton Zoo from 10am to 5.30pm (with last admission at 5pm) while in winter you can visit between 10am and 4pm (with last admission at 3pm).
