Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey sells itself as ‘A Royal Church’ which is true, but doesn’t really do it justice, if you ask us. Just think about the mega-events it’s hosted for a second. Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Winston Churchill’s funeral. Charles and Diana’s wedding. ‘Westminster Mega Church’ is more like it. We’ll pop that in their suggestions box.

The royals don’t need to blow their own trumpets (someone else does that for them). But as the church where the bigwigs go to tie the knot, take power, and pass over to the other side in style, it’s kind of a big deal. With fancy towers and snazzy carvings, the outside’s stunning, and if anything, the interior is even more impressive – you can fit in 6000 people and the dome’s got lovely mosaics. On the tour, you’ll see the coronation chair (where monarchs have been crowned since 1308), the Royal Tombs (where Henry VII and Elizabeth I are buried) and Poets’ Corner (Dickens and Shakespeare are buried here).
