The themed attraction Dickens World opened its doors to the public in May 2007, and is based at Chatham Docks, Kent. Via an interactive guided tour, visitors are led back in time by a professionally trained guide to the England of Victorian times which Dickens knew so well, and which was depicted so skilfully in the author’s short stories and novels.
The set is so authentic that it has been used extensively in film and TV.
The tour lasts an hour and a half, giving you plenty of time to explore and experience the atmospheric alleyways and courtyards of Victorian England. As you take in the sights, smells and sounds, you will hear all about life in Dickensian London.
Visit places like Dotheboys Hall School, Marshalsea Prison, Collards Grocery and Peggotty’s Boathouse, and inspire your children to read and love the books.
An on site theatre also holds regular music and comedy events, and hosts party evenings.
Families including children of all ages, bookworms and literature lovers, those studying Dickens at school.
Mon-Sun: 10am-5.30pm, last tour leaves at 3.30pm, when the front desk closes. Check weekend availability in advance.
