Auld Reekie Tours was formed by Edinburgh entrepreneur Ian McKain in late 1995. The name Auld Reekie translates as “Old Smokey” from when visitors approaching Edinburgh would see the large clouds of smoke coming from the chimneys, then as they got closer the smell became disgusting as the Edinburgh residents used to burn their rotting fruit and vegetation, along with excrement on their fires.
